Have a Great Time Playing and Watching Sports at Shin Sports Kenko Zone (New Sports and Health Area) It’s Quick and Easy!

Did you know that the area with Omori Furusato-no-Hamabe Park in the center, surrounded by Omori Sports Center, Ota Stadium, Morigasaki Park, and Ota City General Gymnasium is referred to as Shin Sports Kenko Zone (New Sports and Health Area)? In the New Sports and Health Area, where a lot of sports facilities and parks are gathered, you can enjoy a vast variety of sports from “Active” sports that anyone can casually try out such as sports classes and beach yoga experiential sessions, to “Spectator” sports that anyone can have fun watching such as professional sport and the Japanese High School Baseball Championship.

In this article, we will be introducing recommended sports facilities for “Active” sports and “Spectator” sports from the New Sports and Health Area.

 

“Active”sports
A running station has opened up for those who love running!
Omori Sports Center



Omori Sports Center is an indoor sports facility that houses an arena with 376 seats and multipurpose sports and health rooms. It is very accessible as it is a 5-minute walk from Heiwajima Station on the Keikyu Line. As a familiar sports facility for the local residents, people of all ages enjoy sports here.
A running station opened up in Omori Sports Center on September 27, 2020.
Must-have services such as lockers, changing rooms, and shower rooms are available for runners. There is no need to reserve in advance, and anyone who is 15 years old or older can use the facility. As for children, they can also use it as long as a guardian is present. Just inform the reception staff on the day of use. How about a little running after you get off work in Omori Sports Center?

The locker deposit is 100 yen and will be returned when you’re finished using it.

The bulletin board contains all kinds of information about running.

There are running routes that start from this running station, including a 3km route that circles back at Omori Furusato-no-Hamabe Park and a 5km route that circles back at Kifunebori Green Space. Neither of the routes have steep slopes, allowing you to run while enjoying the changing seasons in the parks and the breeze from the sea.

These are gorgeous and beautiful routes where you can enjoy seasonal nature and the aroma of the sea while running.

There are distance markers at the starting points and mid-points on the routes.

We also recommend using the workout room in the Sports Center. There are trainers who will show you the ropes of training. Combining appropriate training with running will surely improve your athletic performance! Please check it out!

Let’s try out beach sports!
Omori Furusato-no-Hamabe Park and Omori-Higashi Waterside Sports Area


At the artificial beach on the reconstructed coast of Omori, you can observe and collect all kinds of creatures.

The 30m long roller slide is super popular with children.

Omori-Higashi Waterside Sports Area is a park where the good old coast of Omori was reconstructed with a sandy artificial beach and mud flats, and you can experience nature by the sea. Inside the Area, there are various sports facilities to enjoy such as beach volleyball courts, a futsal field, and a rest facility with coin lockers and shower rooms.

Beach yoga experiential sessions


Morning yoga

Sunset yoga

Beach yoga experiential sessions are held at the beautiful beach in front of the sea. Morning yoga allows you to move your body while basking in the morning sunlight, while sunset yoga will allow you to do so while enjoying the setting sun. Reservations are not required, and yoga mats are freely available for use, so just arrive in time for the session to participate. Instructors officially approved by the Japan S.U.P. Yoga Association hold the sessions, so even beginners can take part with confidence. Wouldn’t it be great to reset your mind and body while basking in the calm sunlight and feeling the sea breeze?

Free use day for the beach volleyball court



At the beach volleyball courts, constructed from fine sand which has been brought in from Da Nang, Vietnam, the main court is open for free use on certain days. No reservation is required, and you just need to show up on those days to check in at the site. Beach tennis and beach volleyball items are freely available for use, so you can just bring yourself and have fun. Furthermore, there is a variety of options such as a beach sports lecture targeted toward elementary and middle school students as well as parents and children, so anyone, young or adult, can enjoy the day.

You can watch professional and high-level matches!
Ota City General Gymnasium

The number of seats in the main arena is over 4,000, and the facility is universally designed, with seats for wheelchair users, a priority restroom, children’s room, etc. We should point out that big matches such as the home games of the teams in the B. League and V. League, many professional wrestling performances, and world title matches for boxing are held here. Do not miss the chance to watch professional and high-level matches!

“Spectator”sports
A major stadium that holds a wide range of events
Ota Stadium

Ota Stadium, renovated and reopened in July 2019, is one of the few baseball stadiums in Tokyo with artificial turf for the entire arena. From national games for the Japan Boys League, high-level amateur baseball games, to women’s softball league games, various events are held in Ota Stadium!
In the games for university baseball and amateur baseball, many players to watch out for, with prospects to participate in the professional baseball draft, can be seen playing. The number of seats is 3,223. The stadium is universally designed, housing a nursing room, diaper-changing area, priority restroom, and seats for wheelchair users. Everyone can enjoy baseball games with their family and friends.
