[Special] Explore the Night Views of Ota City and Enjoy Illuminated Ota City on Summer Nights!

Did you know that there are many places where you can enjoy night views in Ota City? In this edition, we will introduce popular night viewing spots, from establishments where you can enjoy Haneda Airport at nighttime to an area where you can overlook the night view of the Tokyo metropolitan area and a high vantage point where you can see the illusionary view of water reflecting the lights of high-rise condos.

Night view of an airport before your eyes

Foot spa and sky deck at Haneda Innovation City

Haneda Innovation City opened in July 2020 in front of Haneda Airport. It is a large complex that introduces manufacturing technologies of Japan and showcases the charm of each region in Japan under two key phrases, “social innovation” and “Japanese presentation.”
The foot spa and sky deck on the roof in Zone E overlooks Terminal 3 of Haneda Airport. You can watch the night view of runways and observe departing and landing of airplanes while dipping your feet in the free foot spa.

It is open until 11:30p.m. Haneda Innovation City houses a parking lot and parking space for bicycles, and it is directly connected to Tenkubashi Station on the Keikyu Airport Line and Tokyo Monorail, offering great access from the station. When we visited there for this article, we saw a lot of people excitedly taking in the night view.

In the Innovation Corridor where there are many shops, flower lanterns themed after hanafuda (Japanese playing cards) are lined up to create a mystical space.

In the vicinity of Haneda Innovation City is Soramunade Haneda Green Space, which is a walking trail that allows you to take a walk near the mouth of the Tamagawa River. The observation terrace overlooking the estuary of Tokyo Bay as well as the path with plants expressing the colors of the seasons create a place where visitors can take a leisurely stroll while enjoying nature.

Anamori Inari Jinja Shrine, replete with a long history, is just one station over on the Keikyu Airport Line, Anamori-inari Station. The shrine was built in the Edo period as the levees in Haneda often collapsed and the land suffered flooding. How about paying a visit to the shrine while thinking about what the people at that time experienced?

Kentosai Festival at Anamori Inari Jinja Shrine, where you can entrust your wishes to eternal flames

Kentosai Festival is a festival to dedicate paper lamps and raise eternal flames to carry your wishes, and is held at Anamori Inari Jinja Shrine at the end of August every year. Many paper lamps fill the shrine grounds, gently illuminating the summer night.

All the paper lamps are handmade, and as the festival begins, they are lit up one by one. By the time it gets completely dark, the shrine grounds are covered in mystical light, captivating visitors and reminding them of the shrine’s history at the same time.

Take in the night view of the entire metropolitan bay area

Jonanjima Seaside Park

Jonanjima Seaside Park is on Jonajima, which is an artificial island to the north of Haneda Airport. There is also a camp site in the park, allowing visitors to enjoy outdoor activities as well as the night view of Tokyo.

As Jonanjima is located at the very edge on the west side of the Tokyo Bay area, you can enjoy a panoramic night view of a large area from the Tokyo metropolitan area to Chiba, located across the sea, and Haneda Airport.

It is one of the best viewing locations, as you can see Tokyo Tower, the Rainbow Bridge, Shibaura, Odaiba in the direction of the Tokyo metropolitan area, as well as the TOKYO SKYTREE on the right side.

In contrast with the glimmering night view of the metropolitan area, to the south of the park, the illumination of Haneda Airport is dotted with airplanes passing by over the head with an impressive sound.

Although you can enter the park 24 hours a day, Jonanjima prohibits any non-related vehicles from entering from 9:00p.m. to 6:00a.m. Please note that the parking lot for the park is available from 7:30a.m. to 9:00p.m.
There is a bus stop within walking distance, but the last bus departs before 9:00p.m. on weekdays, so please check the timetable before visiting.

Ota Market (Central Wholesale Market), where you can enjoy the food fresh from the market , and Tokyo Port Wild Bird Park, where you can enjoy nature to your heart’s content are also on Jonanjima, home to Jonanjima Seaside Park.
If you go to Omori, the Omori Nori Museum is there for you to learn about the history of nori production.

There are many attractive places at the seaside area in Ota City. We guarantee that your whole family can enjoy themselves all day, so please give it a try and visit.

Illumination reflecting on the surface of the Tamagawa River

Tamagawa Sengen Shrine

Tamagawa Sengen Shrine is near the Marukobashi Bridge, which goes over the Tamagawa River. As Tamagawa Sengen Shrine is on higher ground with the Tamagawa River flowing right next to it, you can see the combination of the illumination of a group of high-rise condos in Musashi Kosugi across the river and the Marukobashi Bridge from the observation deck of the shrine. Furthermore, a mystical illumination effect occurs thanks to those lights reflecting on the surface of the Tamagawa River.

The time around sunset is also a great time to check out this place, although it is a bit too early to catch the night view. The direction where Kawasaki is seen from this area has flat terrain, so you can watch a beautiful sunset on a sunny day.
If possible, try visiting during the earlier hours to enjoy both the sunset and night view to your heart’s content.

The observation deck to see the night view is available 24 hours a day, but as there is a residential area nearby, please be considerate while enjoying the view. The parking lot is strictly for people who are visiting the shrine. Please note that there are only a few metered parking spaces nearby. As Tamagawa Station with three Tokyu Lines is near the shrine, we recommend using the trains as much as possible when visiting.
Tamagawa Sengen Shrine
Hours
24 hours a day for the observation deck
Location
1-55-12 Denenchofu, Ota-ku
Access
1-minute walk from Tamagawa Station on the Tokyu Toyoko Line, Tokyu Meguro Line, and Tokyu Tamagawa Line
(The parking lot is strictly for people who are visiting the shrine.)

Please be considerate and refrain from making loud noises.

There are many stylish cafés and restaurants near Tamagawa Station. It is relaxing to spend time at those establishments, or you could visit Tamagawadai Park in front of the station to see an ancient burial mound. The park also has a hydrangea garden, and you can enjoy cherry blossoms and autumn foliage depending on the season. On the opposite side of the station from Tamagawadai Park is Denenchofu Seseragi Park, which is an area with rich nature.

As you walk towards the mouth of the Tamagawa River, you will be able to take a walk on a well-maintained walking trail by Rokugo Canal. Walk east from there, and you will see the famous Sakurazaka. It is an area that is perfect for night viewing as well as for a stroll on an off day. Please come visit and give it a try.

Past and present (Showa/Reiwa periods) night view tales in Ota City

This is a night view photo taken near Marukobashi Bridge close to Tamagawa Sengen Shrine, which we introduced above, but dating from the Showa period.
As you can see, there are no tall buildings or apartments compared to what you can see in the present day, but you can see the bright lights illuminating the surface of the Tamagawa River.

Next, we would like to introduce the shopping district at the West Exist of JR Kamata Station. It is now called SunRise Kamata (left photo), but back in the Showa period, in 1953, as shown in the right photo, it was called Kamata Nishiguchi (West Exit) Ginza. The shopping district has been brightly shedding light on the lives of people in the past as well as the present.

Check out this unconventional night view spot!
