[Special]More Than Just Airplanes Plenty of Fun for Parents and Kids Enjoy a Full Day at Haneda Airport!

“Where should we go for a weekend getaway?”
When you’re wondering that, the perfect place might actually be Haneda Airport.

Take the Keikyu Airport Line or the Tokyo Monorail to the airport, watch planes from the observation deck, enjoy interactive attractions, and savor airport cuisine. Even without a flight, there are plenty of ways to spend the day with your family.

Haneda Airport is fun, even without a flight

When you think of an “airport,” you probably picture a place to board a plane.

But Haneda Airport offers more. In fact, even without a flight, it’s a “spot for intellectual curiosity” full of fun for parents and children.

Each terminal has its own attractions, so we recommend spending a day exploring them all. This time, we’ll introduce a model itinerary for enjoying Haneda Airport with your children.

Ride the Tokyo Monorail to Haneda Airport

Start your day at Monorail Hamamatsuchō Station. Two lines serve Haneda Airport: the Keikyu Airport Line and the Tokyo Monorail. Today, let’s head to the airport on the Tokyo Monorail, which feels like a fun little attraction in itself!

We recommend the “front observation” seats, located just behind the driver’s seat in the first car. From here, you can watch the tracks ahead over the driver’s back.

As you travel, the window on the left side offers port city views, including canals leading to Tokyo Bay and warehouse districts.

Soon the airport comes into view, and at last you arrive at Haneda Airport Terminal 1 Station!

Renovated in April 2025, Haneda Airport Terminal 1 Station now features ticket-gate walls decorated with a design inspired by the former Tokyo Monorail logo.

A spectacular experience! Terminal 1 Observation Deck

Our first stop is the Terminal 1 Observation Deck. Located right next to the runway, it’s a spot where you can feel the power of airplane engines up close.

Even adults can’t help but gasp as they watch planes gently lift into the sky.

From the deck, you can also watch the “working vehicles” moving around the airport grounds. These include towing trucks, water tankers, and specialized luggage carriers...spotting them is part of the fun.

On a clear day, you can even see Mt. Fuji In the evening, you might be lucky enough to catch a spectacular view of the sunset and planes silhouetted against it.

Compare the Vehicles! Observation Decks in Each Terminal

◆ Terminal 2 Observation Deck

Here, you can also watch planes from comfortable indoor areas. Tokyo Bay stretches out in the background, creating a wonderful sense of openness. There’s a café with terrace and table seating—perfect for taking a break.

◆ Terminal 3 Observation Deck

This terminal is known for its many international flights. On clear days, you can even see Tokyo Skytree and Tokyo Tower. Open 24 hours a day, it’s a great place to enjoy the magical atmosphere of the airport at night.

Observation Deck Hours
Terminals 1 & 2: 6:30 a.m. - 10:00 p.m.
Terminal 3: Open 24 hours
*May be closed due to weather or security reasons.

Explore the Airport’s Experience Spots!

[Recommended Experience 1] Be a Pilot in a Full-Scale Simulator (Terminal 1)

After watching planes take off and land, head to “LUXURY FLIGHT” on the 5th floor of Terminal 1.

Here you can try a full-scale flight simulator, the same model used in airline recruitment tests.

With an instructor’s guidance, you’ll experience a realistic simulation from takeoff to landing. Start by taxiing down the runway, then slowly pull back on the control stick to lift off.

Once airborne, you’ll be soaring over Tokyo, with sights like the Imperial Palace and Skytree coming into view.

Use the control stick to keep the aircraft balanced.
With the in-flight announcement to fasten your seatbelt, you’ll feel like a real pilot! Finally, you safely land on the Haneda Airport runway.

If you like, you can even wear a pilot’s uniform. This is a must-do experience for kids and aviation enthusiasts alike.
LUXURY FLIGHT Haneda Airport Main Store
Location: Terminal 1, 5th Floor
Hours: 10:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. (open daily)
Plans & Prices: KIDS Experience (ages 8-15, 20 minutes, no motion) 4,400 yen (tax included)

Explore Haneda’s Special Aviation Exhibition

“THE HISTORY OF HANEDA: Sora ga Tsunagu ” is currently held on the 5th floor of Terminal 1 (until September 29, 2025).

Through exhibits such as a full-scale model of Haneda Airport, model airplanes from various airlines, flight attendant uniforms, and historical documents from railway companies serving the airport, visitors can learn about the history of Haneda Airport and the companies that support it.

[Recommended Experience 2] Stroll Through the Edo Streets! (Terminal 3)

On the fourth floor of Terminal 3, you’ll find Edo Koji, a recreation of an Edo-period streetscape.

This commercial area replicates the streets of an Edo-period town, built using traditional materials and methods, such as plaster walls and roofing tiles from Awaji Island.

With narrow entrances like those of the Edo period, the craft shops are a delight to peek into.

A highlight is the playhouse, designed and supervised by the 18th-generation kabuki actor Nakamura Kanzaburo XVIII.
Its persimmon-orange, white, and black curtains, along with handwritten signboards, capture the look of the Edo period.

Don’t miss the hinoki-wood Haneda Nihonbashi Bridge.

Inspired by the historic Nihonbashi Bridge, once the starting point of many journeys, this version has been recreated as a symbol of departure—about half the size and width of the early 19th-century original.

Decorating the wall is a ceramic print based on the “Edo-zu Byobu (Edo Map Folding Screen)” (owned by the National Museum of Japanese History ).

The print below is said to depict the sandals of the third shogun, Tokugawa Iemitsu! Be sure to keep an eye out for them when you visit.

Cross Haneda Nihonbashi Bridge and continue inside to find the TIAT SKY ROAD, a walkway leading to the Terminal 3 observation deck.

Along the way, you’ll see a collection of model airplanes from airlines around the world; it’s fun to try spotting the same aircraft you saw on the observation deck.

[Recommended Experience 3] An Exciting Slot Car Race

The toy specialty store Hakuhinkan TOY PARK Haneda Airport Store is also located in Terminal 3.

A popular attraction here is the slot car racing experience. Choose your favorite car, race it around the course, and compete to see who wins.

The lever controls your car’s speed. If you don’t handle it properly, your car can go off course, adding to the thrill!

Races can have multiple reversals, so the winner isn’t known until the very end. Lap times are displayed during the race, making it even more exciting. For younger children, there are also cars that stay on course, so everyone can enjoy the fun.

With a wide selection of character goods, toys featuring famous Japanese landmarks, and airplane merchandise, Hakuhinkan TOY PARK Haneda Airport Store is fun to browse.
Hakuhinkan TOY PARK Haneda Airport Store
Location: Terminal 3, 5th Floor
