Annual summer festival held at Haneda Shrine and its surroundings.
On Sunday, tens of portable shrines are sent out by 3,000 carriers into the town, attracting more than 30,000 visitors.
Commonly known as yokota, carriers rock the Mikoshi (portable shrine) boldly, like rolling from side to side, almost at 90º. Carriers at the right side jump, whereas those at the left side squat down. They do this repeatedly, which is a quite valiant and unique way to carry the shrine.
The passage of portable shrines throughout the town starts on the Sunday afternoon, with 13 shrines from 13 towns marching in the streets in yokota style for almost 3 hours.
Yosakoi is also being performed by local elementary school children, and Haneda Airport as a shrine parishioner dispatches dozens of volunteers including cabin attendants from ANA and JAL, who distribute drinks and paper fans to add a colorful touch to the parade.
