A three-lion dance at Rokugo Shrine is performed by 3rd to 6th grade boys and girls as a religious offering.
Boys wear female, male, and mid-size lion masks and dance while beating the drum held on the chest.
Girls surround the boys, wearing flower hats and dancing accompanied by a musical instrument called sasara, which is made of bamboo.
During this annual festival in early June, the “parade” goes around the towns of shrine parishioners, and a lion dance is performed in the precincts of the shrine.
