Setsubun(Ikegami Honmonji Temple)

On the last day of winter, Ikegami Honmonji Temple offers a tsuinashiki (ceremony to drive out evil spirits) and a bean-scattering ceremony performed by fukuotoko and fukuonna (lucky men and women), praying for family safety and good health and for wishes to come true for the year. More than 10,000 people visit the festival every year, with the participation of celebrities, including professional wrestlers and martial artists. About 1 ton of beans are used, and a stage of about 50-m long is specially set up for this impressive ceremony.
